Nose Work Foundations
Classes run for Six consecutive weeks
Nose Work is based on Canine Scent Detection, but instead of searching for drugs or explosives, our dogs will be searching for target odours. Dog Nerd uses the scents designated by the Sporting Detection Dogs Association (SDDA).
This class is open to everyone! Whether you want to try a new form of enrichment for your dog, or compete for ribbons, you and your dog will enjoy Nose Work. We welcome all dogs: from shy to high drive, from puppies to elderly dogs, disabled dogs, and dogs needing confidence.
In Nose Work Foundations you will learn the basics of searching for odour, how to handle odour, how to handle your dog during searches, and how to prepare your own hides. The first scent, Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) will be provided.
Prerequisites: None!
If your dog has special needs, please let us know prior to registration.
Dogs must be able to work in the presence of other dogs and people, and is therefore not appropriate for reactive dogs. This class *may* be appropriate for Dog Nerd’s Reactive Rover grads; please consult with your instructor.
